Our Mission
It’s our person goal to help anyone who wants learn IT. Whether that be how to operate you own personal computer, be it Mac, PC, or tablet. We also want to teach people how to keep themselves safe while using their technology. Anyone can learn how to be an IT pro with a little hard work and persistence.
Projects
Lab – The lab is back up and running after the surge that took it out. The previous lab was destroyed in a power surge that fried virtually all of the equipment. We used that opportunity to improve the slightly aging gear since then. Most of the lab is open source, leveraging Proxmox to run our virtual machines and Kubernetes to manage our containers. We are using OpenSUSE Leap, Zorin OS, Linux Mint, Pop!_OS, Endeavor OS, Manjaro, Sparky, and Ubuntu on the VMs. Rasberry Pi OS on the 6 Pis, and TruNas backing it all up.
Voice Assistant – We are working on creating an in-house virtual assistant through Python. It’s a side project that receives love in spurts, but we are hopeful to get it finished by Jan. 2024 and have it integrated with Home Assistant by Summer of 2024.
Drone Flying – We have moved into the drone photography business. We have one drone now and looking to purchase another soon. It’s more fun than business at the moment, but we will be looking to flesh it out soon. This is mostly to continue to build our skills in Davinci Resolve.
Digital Photography – Once again, right now it is more expression than business, but it gives us examples to continue to improve our knowledge in Krita, Photopea, and Inkscape. We have started playing with Blender and Midjourney as well.
Self-Development – With recent developments in the Open Source world, we are discontinuing all our Red Hat based learning/development and doubled down on Debian. Any code that comes out of our camp will be based on the assumption that you will be using it on a Debian based system, and we will not be offering any type of support to help get it working on a Red Hat based system. If it works there, cool, feel free to use it, but we cannot guarantee compatibility at any stage.
Teaching Classes – This year, we will begin putting together video classes on some of our offerings. We are unsure as to exactly where these will be available at this time, but more news soon on this exciting new venture.
Podcasting/Blogging – We are working on content for a new podcast and blogging site. With so much else going on, We haven’t been able to devote much time to it. Coming up in 2023, we’ll be putting out a monthly blog and eventually a show, because I just don’t have the time to do it weekly or bi-weekly. We love content creation and love the concept of podcasting most of all.
